Stupid Mechanic

After having a bad experience or two with transmission shops, I thought I knew just what to ask and how to ask it. I knew that if I let someone take apart my tranny first, they can name their price to put it back together. Very bad news. I think they base the price on how soon their rent is due! So I call around until I found a guy that would give me a decent quote to rebuild the tranny. And I really drilled him...I asked "Will it include a new torque convertor? Does it include parts AND labor? Does it include fluid?". Then I went one step further and asked, "Do you swear that no matter what, this is absolutely the most you will charge me to complete the job?". He swore to me. Damn...I should have got it in writing!!! He called me after he had it apart and said the tail-end housing was cracked and it would be another $75 to fix it. Boy, was I mad! He wouldn't give me my only car back unless I paid him. And I only has as much money as he quoted. I had to loan him my tools as collateral!!! I complained to the BBB about him. He was out of business within a month. His shop was called ABC Transmissions. It was near 27th Ave & Indian School I think. The story worsens. My distributor hold down clamp was not tight when I brought the car there. During removal or installation, the distributor got clocked real far one way. The engine would barely run when I picked up the car. His explanation: "Since your tranny is in good shape now, it requires a lot of power from the engine to run properly and your engine is old." Also, he said that my passing gear cable popped off of the gas pedal and he put it back on. Yeah, but the first time I used it, it popped off again! Also, when I picked up the car, I noticed that the vacuum line that goes to the tranny was not fastened to the tranny/engine mounting bolt as it should be. He said someone in the past had put the wrong clamp on there so there was nothing he could do. But you could see that the hole in the clamp lined up perfectly with the bolt head it should have been mounted on!!! Next, the thing started leaking fluid within a week, from the tail end housing he charged me $75 extra to fix!!!
